Fit Testing

There are a few things that everyone should take into consideration when using hearing protectors in hazardous noise environments at work and at home:

In late 2009, Kenny Dillard, faced seemingly insurmountable environmental challenges to the Hearing Conservation program at a Dalton, Ga., manufacturing facility of Shaw Industries Group, Inc., the world’s largest carpet manufacturer and a leading floor covering provider.

As ear plug fit testing continues to gain momentum and practice in occupational hearing conservation programs, safety professionals face several challenges in implementing a successful fit testing program. Such challenges include selecting the appropriate fit testing technology; scheduling workers for tests; evaluating fit test results (Personal Attenuating Ratings); and applying the results as a meaningful safety metric.
